The 2011 AMA Supercross Championship kicked off last night in impressive fashion with a sell out crowd filling the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. Reigning Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey would face an incredibly tough challenge this year as James ‘Bubba’ Stewart, Chad Reed and Ryan Villopoto would return from injury and attempt to dethrone the young hotshot.

Motorsport hero’s from all over the world from various disciplines would make the trip to Anaheim to witness all the action, from my rounds I bumped into Mick Doohan (Moto GP Legend), Stefan Everts (MX Legend), Danny LaPorte (MX Legend), Rickey Johnson (Supercross legend) and Ken Block (Rally) plus many more turned up to see the action.

Action was found in every heat, every main race and even in the pits as the Supercross scene exploded in colourful and flamboyant fashion.

Despite comfortably winning his heat race and being the fastest man on the track the whole evening, James ‘Bubba’ Stewart’s mid-pack start would be hinder his chances to take a comeback win in the main event but his charge through the pack would end in a podium finish for the San Manuel Yamaha rider.

Carrying the #1 plate for the first time in 2011, Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey chased the super fast Monster Energy Kawasaki of Ryan Villopoto the whole race but the Kawasaki star was just too strong and held on for comfortable victory and maximum points to start is 2011 campaign off in the best possible way.

If you have never been to a Supercross race, you must. It’s like no other motorcycle race meeting I’ve ever been too. The tracks are fierce, the skilled riders are determined warriors and the colourful crowd get right behind all the action (and there is plenty of that).

There are lots of giveaways, autograph signings and chances to win all kinds of prizes during the evening as well as bump into a few celebrities and that’s just a bonus as the races themselves are far from boring.

I highly recommend going to a Supercross event, if you are into Motorcycles in anyway you will not be disappointed.
