Ian Hutchinson & David Knight

MotoGeo catches up with TT hero Ian Hutchinson and Enduro World Champion David Knight

Today I caught up with last years TT hero Ian Hutchinson and Enduro World Champion David Knight who were both hopping around the TT paddock as they recover from their injuries.

Ian’s leg is a mess, he nearly lost his leg after a horrendous crash at Silverstone last year when he was involved in a 1st corner accident which put him on the ground and in the path of the following pack of racers.

“I was on the ground and getting clipped by other bikes as they blasted past, one hit me on the back which sent me spinning and another motorcycle hit my leg full force between my knee and ankle. It smashed and crushed my leg, it was nasty and after my foot wasn’t getting any blood so the doctors have been wanting to amputate my leg for a while now. Thankfully it’s started to come back to life now and the bone is slowly healing, I hope to be back at next years TT” said Ian.

David on the other hand has had surgery to his hip to remove bone growth after past fractures caused the once smooth ball joint to become notchy. Both hips need surgery to remove the excess callus but they can only work on one at a time as they need the operated one to become strong enough for them to work on the other.

“Over the years my hips have just become more and more sore and causing me problems so I had no option than to have surgery. Things are going well, I need to rest and rehabilitate my operated hip and hopefully after 4-6 weeks they can then work on the other. I’ll be back towards the end of the year and I don’t see any problems, only feeling stronger, fitter and hopefully faster” said David.

Both motorcycling hero’s are on the island, talking with fans and keen to watch all the action they can.

    Get well soon lads!
