John McGuinness has done it again, winning his 16th IOM TT race and doing it in very impressive fashion by setting off from the line like a bullet, ending his 1st lap with an average of 130+mph.

Hot on John heals was Bruce Anstey who was less than a second behind and it was Anstey who was really flying on the second lap as he overhauled McGuinness by Glen Helen turning his deficit into a 1.5s advantage.

Gary Johnson was a further four seconds back in third still ahead of Guy Martin, Michael Dunlop and Cameron Donald but at the head of the field Anstey was pressing ahead on the Padgetts Honda and he completed the lap at 131.378mph. His lead was only 0.9s though as McGuinness also broke the 131mph barrier!

Things would be changed up as the came into the pits for the first time, Anstey had a rather lengthy stop due to complications with the rear brake pads and handed the lead right back to McGuinness plus a 16 second advantage.

Due to the slow stop, Guy Martin jumped into 2nd place for a short time before Anstey clawed back a few seconds and looked to set after McGuinness but would later retire at Quarry Bends while 12 seconds adrift of McGuinness.

This left John well out in front and the serious battles were now over the remaining podium positions as Martin, Johnson and Donald were in close formation on the time sheets.

2nd place looked comfortable for Guy as he stretched out a 10 second advantage over Johnson, partly due to Gary receiving a 30 second penalty for speeding down pit lane, but Guy’s luck was on his side as he also retired on lap 5 at Hillberry.

McGuinness was then able to cruise home in his final lap, his final winning margin over Donald 56.9 seconds. Johnson lost the runner-up spot due to the pit lane infringement but he was still comfortable in third ahead of Amor who ensured it was four Hondas in the top 4.

Michael Dunlop came through from his pit stop problems to secure 5th on the final lap just edging Stewart out by two seconds. William Dunlop enjoyed his best ever ride in the Superbike race to take 7th with Hillier, Adrian Archibald and Ian Mackman rounding out the top ten.

      1: John McGuinness – 16th TT win!

2: Cameron Donald * fastest lap of the race

      3: David Johnson
