Today I popped in to Yamaha UK to return the Fazer8 that I’ve been riding around the Isle of Man and swap it for the Super Tenere for my European riding adventure.

As I walked into their HQ in Brooklands they had a collection of stunning machines that I just couldn’t resist taking photo’s of and sharing them with you.

The first one I noticed was Niall MacKenzie’s 500cc Grand Prix machine, I remember watching him ride this bike at the British GP at Donington Park, shouting and screaming for him to win as he battled with other legends like Rainey, Schwantz and co.

I even (like everyone else that day) ran onto the track at the end of the race and got really close to it as it came blasting past, what a sight, what a race, what a motorcycle!

As I got closer to the bikes, it’s just amazing to see the technology that goes into these machines, for example just look at the front brakes, one drum, one disc, one carbon and that’s just the front brake. The suspension was no different, dual springs on one, a huge mono shock that goes all the way to the head stock on another and then lead link suspension as we know it today on MacKenzie’s machine.

Also in the reception was other beautiful motorbikes, the RD was a bit before my time but I do remember the racing series that created so many motorcycling talents and allowed many guys to shine on the national and international stage while they all competed on the same bikes for little $.

Anyway, they got my juices flowing and I thought I’d share a few golden oldies with you and I hope you enjoy them too.
